Uganda's Hurting Children

Uganda, once called "The Pearl of Africa" has undergone tragic and difficult times over the past 35 years. Successive civil wars, economic catastrophe and the rage of HIV/AIDS has decimated "The Pearl".

When you consider this situation you ask yourself, why? Who has suffered the most? The answer must be, the children. Thousands of children, who because of the war with the LRA (Lords Resistance Army), were abducted and forced to be "child soldiers", trained to kill. Those who did escape fled into the bush and the cold of night, without proper shelter or protection. Others who escaped the tragedy of war have been orphaned by AIDS.

According to the official Uganda AIDS website www.aidsuganda.org, "The Ministry Of Health estimated over 940,000 HIV/AIDS-related deaths since the onset of the epidemic in the country by end of 2001." That is almost 1 million Ugandans who have died and as a result left a multitude of orphans.
